Process-Driven AI Earned Best Use of AI in eDiscovery in 2024

AI isn’t about chasing the latest trend. It’s about creating meaningful solutions to real-world problems. At TCDI, our goal is not just about adopting AI, but integrating it in ways that enhance efficiency and drive better outcomes for our clients.

It’s this philosophy that earned TCDI the Best Use of AI in eDiscovery award from LegalTech Breakthrough Awards in 2024.

Real Problems

We believe that solutions leveraging AI and Large Language Models (LLMs) will fundamentally reshape how legal teams approach problem-solving in the coming years. In fact, their impact will likely surpass the past two decades of technological advancements. At TCDI, our focus is on investigating how these innovative tools can be applied in meaningful, practical ways that solve real-world problems and meet our clients’ evolving eDiscovery needs.

Introducing the TCDI Tech Lab

This is where TCDI’s Tech Lab comes in. Officially launched in 2023, the Tech Lab serves as a dedicated environment where new software, processes, and tools undergo rigorous testing, validation, and assessment.

The primary objectives of this lab are two-fold:

This allows for proactive experimentation with modern technologies, customization to align tools with client requirements, and optimization to ensure tailored, effective solutions.

By leveraging this approach, our clients can make informed decisions about technology adoption, mitigate implementation risks, and implement forward-thinking and tailored solutions that are both flexible and defensible.

Real Solutions

Collaborating with Our Technology Partners

During the evaluation process, TCDI’s Tech Lab performs rigorous proof-of-concept (POC) projects, thoroughly testing each solution in order to assess its strengths, uncover its limitations, and determine how it could be applied in legal workflows. Through this process, we’ve built strong partnerships that give our clients access to the best tools for their matters.

TCDI is proud to partner with:

These partnerships go beyond simple technology adoption. They are built on continuous collaboration. By integrating workflows based on Lean Six Sigma (LSS) principles with our partners’ AI capabilities, we create holistic solutions that adapt to the specific needs of each matter.

This approach ensures our clients always have access to the best tools that enhance quality, efficiency, and defensibility. Together, with our partners, we are delivering AI solutions that are not only innovative but also practical for the evolving challenges of eDiscovery.

Developing Innovative Solutions at TCDI

Beyond our partnerships, TCDI has some of the best technologists in the business who excel at thinking outside the box while mastering what’s inside it. Our development team works closely with our project managers and data analysts to continually evaluate the eDiscovery market, legal service technology opportunities, and client needs.

Committing to Security and Data Privacy

Even with extensive testing and validation of both TCDI’s and our partners’ technology, security is, and should be, top of mind when discussing AI-based solutions. At TCDI, we’ve understood the importance of data security and privacy from the very beginning. That’s why we’ve invested heavily in building our teams and technology to meet the highest standards, and we expect that same commitment from our partners.

Protecting Client Data Since 1988

Over 500 leading corporations and law firms trust TCDI with 4 petabytes of data in our on-site Tier 3 datacenter every single day. To maintain that trust, TCDI performs:

In addition, an internal audit program is in place to measure controls aimed at security, availability, and confidentiality with these controls validated by independent audits resulting in SOC 2 Type II Audit Reports

TCDI is the First Relativity Partner to Receive Their
Security Best Practices Competency

As a RelativityOne Silver Partner, we are thrilled to be the first to receive this competency. We’ve always believed that strong security isn’t just about meeting requirements; it’s about doing what’s right for our clients and their data.

This achievement validates our commitment to security by adhering to RelOne Security Configurations and two-factor authentication across platforms, among other measures.

Evaluating More Than Just Technology

As a part of our partner selection process, we look for those with a similar approach to security. Our security and compliance team evaluates each partners’ controls and processes with the same level of scrutiny that our clients expect from us.

Our partners’ technology is based on proprietary algorithms and deep learning models – all code and infrastructure is developed and maintained directly by our partners’ personnel. This not only prevents the technology from being susceptible to widespread issues commonly faced by public Al platforms, but it also ensures confidential data is not available for public use, remaining within the confines of their secure systems.

Real Results

All of our active matters that employ AI technology began as proof-of-concept projects for our clients through work done by our Tech Lab.

Keeping Humans and Processes at the Center of Our Solutions

Human-in-the-Loop Approach to AI in eDiscovery

Every engagement that leverages AI tools also undergoes human validation through TCDI’s Military Spouse Managed Review (MSMR) program.

This AI-driven, human-in-the-loop approach enables us to review complex data sets and documents with remarkable precision, surfacing key insights, identifying potential risks, and reducing review volumes to a fraction of the time it used to take. A continuous feedback loop exists between our MSMR team, AI technology partners, and clients to validate the technology’s output, make adjustments, and rerun data sets as needed to ensure a comprehensive end result.

This approach has led to review tasks being accomplished faster and at a lower cost to our clients.
